Art and Science of Laboratory Medicine. Clinical laboratory and biomedical science related news, abstracts and images for medical laboratory professionals, students and other laboratory geeks.
Since, according to CAP guidelines, a department head/supervisor/technical specialist only has to have 2 a year associate degree and 2 years experience, being a laboratorian is a vocation, not a career. RN's in Ohio now require a minimum BS degree. being a PT requires at least a BS degree and are churning out PhD's. Pharmacists in Ohio are now PharmD (doctorate). Other professions are requiring more education and experience. Response from the laboratory leaders?? Dumb down requirements for more technical work. I am almost ashamed to be a laboratorian anymore. It's a good thing I love the work, and how I contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of patients. An MT(ASCP)C who sometimes wishes he'd become a Pharmacist.
